NAPLAN: what it is and how BrightHop can help
NAPLAN tests literacy and numeracy in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. BrightHop covers primary years, so this page is about Year 3 and Year 5.
BrightHop is not affiliated with or endorsed by ACARA, the NSW Department of Education or any test authority. It is practice and learning support, not a guarantee of any result, placement or score.
What the official test covers
- NAPLAN is for all Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students.
- Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
- Students sit the tests online, and the tests are tailored (adaptive): difficulty adjusts to the student’s responses.
- Results are shown against four levels of proficiency: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support.
- The 2027 NAPLAN test window is 10–22 March.
Checked on 2026-10-31. Always confirm details with the official pages, as they can change.

Nearest free check (general practice)
These are ordinary curriculum Skill Checks. They are not exam-style and are not NAPLAN, OC or Selective practice.
What is not available yet
- There are no Year 3 practice tests yet.
- The practice papers are fixed-length. They do not adapt to your child the way the online NAPLAN tests do.
- There are no writing tasks.
How the check works and what happens after
A Skill Check is free and needs no account. Each question is marked as your child answers, and the result shows the skills that may need attention. It is an informal check, not a diagnosis or proof of mastery. When an answer is wrong, a short lesson with a worked example explains the idea, a follow-up question checks it, and a retest later shows whether it helped. Keeping progress needs a free account.
