BrightHop

Privacy Policy

Last updated 20 October 2026

Draft. This page is still being reviewed and may change before BrightHop’s public launch.

BrightHop is an Australian primary-school learning website for Maths and English. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written for parents and carers, because parents create accounts and children never do.

Who we are

BrightHop is an Australian service that is currently in free beta.

The free Skill Checks (no account)

You can take a free Skill Check without an account. Answers are sent to our servers so they can be marked and the result shown, but we do not save a visitor’s answers to a database. If you later choose to keep a result by creating an account or signing in, the result is saved to your account as described below. Until then, a result you chose to keep is held only in your own browser.

What we collect when you have an account

Why we use it

To mark answers, show results, teach the skills a child is missing, recommend what to learn next, show you their progress, keep the service secure, and improve BrightHop. We do not sell personal information and we do not show advertising.

Children’s information

Children do not have accounts, email addresses or passwords with BrightHop. A parent or carer signs in and decides what to enter about their child. We collect only what the learning features need and do not ask a child for contact details. If you believe information about a child has been entered that you did not intend, contact us and we will help.

Cookies, browser storage and analytics

Who else handles information

We use service providers to run BrightHop: Clerk (sign-in) and a hosting provider that stores our data. They handle information only to provide those services. Some of these providers are based overseas, including in the United States, so information may be processed outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure overseas providers handle information appropriately. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Keeping information safe, and for how long

Sign-in is verified on our servers on every request, and each family can reach only its own learners. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We keep account and learning information until you ask us to delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the information we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and your child’s learning data. If you are not satisfied with our response to a privacy concern, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. See also our Terms of Use.
